Don Carlo
Aylesbury Opera
27th March to 29th March 2026
TICKETS: From £5.00
Aylesbury Opera presents a fully staged production, with orchestra, of Verdi’s Don Carlo. This is Verdi’s 4-act arrangement for Milan (1884), sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Family ties fray and unravel in Verdi’s spectacle of forbidden passion, political intrigue, and shattering betrayal set at the height of the Spanish Empire. Don Carlo, the son of the King of Spain, laments that Elisabeth of Valois, the woman he loves, has been forced to marry his father to forge peace with France. With everyone under the watchful eye of the Inquisition, tension and paranoia run rampant, leading the king to suspect his wife of infidelity with Carlo.
This new production of one of Verdi’s great masterpieces is directed by Emma Large, praised by Opera Magazine for her thoughtful and effective interpretation of Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, staged by Aylesbury Opera in March 2025. The cast includes:
- Don Carlo - Philip Hayes
- Elisabetta di Valois - Anna Goodhew
- Filippo II - William Stevens
- Rodrigo - Andrew Mayor
- Eboli - Chiara Carbone
- Grande Inquisitore - Richard Perry
The Aylesbury Opera Chorus and Orchestra is conducted by Musical Director Sam Laughton.
